The old North Eastern Railway used hopper wagons to transport coal from
collieries to coastal loading staithes for shipment abroad or to power
stations throughout the UK. They were also used in domestic coal traffic
and many station yards had overhead coal drops where hoppers could be
unloaded by gravity. This kit for a typical NE hopper covers Nos. 164885-165484,
188617-190016 and 203897-204296. It consists mainly of whitemetal castings
and features operating bottom doors. The kit requires wheels, paint
and transfers to complete.
